Hassle-free for a DIYer

By cdalisay

I am a DIY kind of girl because as a female, repair shops will always try to persuade you, saying that there is something more wrong with the car on top of the original problem you had. Recently, I hit 95k miles on my Honda Civic 2013 and the ABS/VSA/SRS/SAS lights started to flicker. I bring it to the dealership and they claimed it was the abs modulator... okay sure. We replaced it and i drove off for about 15 miles and bam, the lights are back. I bring it back and they claim it’s something else. I wasted a lot of time with Honda’s dealership that it was time to figure it out myself. This device not only told me what was the issue (it was low voltage) but it allowed me to clear it in minutes. The set up was hassle-free and honestly, it saves you time and money in the future. I wish I would have bought this device before taking it to the dealership because my problems would have been solved a lot quicker.

Fixed ESC CTIVE light. ABS, and SAS. GM

Autel MaxiCOM MK808BT Customer ReviewsBy Omar Moran

I was having problems with ESC

It kept coming on, I took it to the tire shop and asked for an alignment. I just needed the SAS to be reset or calibrated.. They tried to sell me stuff that the car does not need, they said they could align the car until extra parts were installed, parts like control arms, ball joints, tie rods. All these over $1000. I couldn’t believe it, not after I installed all these parts on my own. Then I took it to an other tire shop, and they couldn’t find anything with their ABS scanner. They suggested that the clutch might be starting to slip. I decided to keep looking, and bought LAUNCH Scanner but didn’t work on my vehicle. It was very disappointing.

    End of the story

As soon as I got this scanner, I updated the GM support. Connect it to my 2009 Cobalt SS, and start playing with it.

This tool was 100% charged and ready to go. It is powerful but could be faster.

The first thing I did was reset the brake pedal sensor, then I reset the SAS (shop didn’t want to do it unless they had installEd parts that I didn’t need), then I bled the ABS System using this powerful diagnostic tool. Took it for a ride and the annoying “ESC ACTIVE” light disappeared. I felt relieved . It is worth the money. I’m so thankful AUTEL.

Shops always try to rip someone off, stay alert. I learned that if I want something done right, I have to do it myself.

    Learn, DIY and save money.

Ok at reading codes, mediocre at bi-directional communication

Autel MaxiCOM MK808BT Customer ReviewsBy Sbab

I'm coming up on a year since I purchased the MK808BT, and I have to say, it sort of hovers right on the borderline of being good or not. Full disclaimer that I'm not a professional mechanic in any way. I'm more of an enthusiast, so keep that in mind with this review.

What I like about the MK808BT is that software updates over the course of the year have somewhat improved the performance of this tool (increasing it's speed, etc). It's still pretty slow with communication, but it has improved somewhat, and new vehicle support is added on occasion (updates seem to take a long time to be released though).

While you can likely read codes from any vehicle and get specialized functions for many makes and models (many I've never even heard of here in the US); you won't get specialized function support for even something as common as a 99-04 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I found this odd as they have Wrangler support from the same generation (and I was even able to perform grand cherokee key programming using the Wrangler functions, so you can still do certain things if you're willing to take risks like this)

What I don't like is that the marketing for this tool seems to exaggerate it's capabilities when it comes to bi-directional communication. They make you think you will get those advertised functions for all supported vehicles, but in my experience, it's pretty limited on many vehicles (even if that vehicle could work with that function on a more advanced tool).

For example - modern Toyotas like a Camry and Highlander are supported by this tool - but I mostly get 'function not supported on this vehicle' even if it should be a working functionality. I'm hoping future updates will fix a lot of this.

Updates do occur, and you get a year free with purchase, however, they aren't as frequent as I would like. As my free year expires, I'm not sure the current frequency of updates warrants a paid subscription

On vehicles like Fords, the functions seem to work much better.

so it's pretty up-in-the-air as to what functionality you'll get on any given vehicle.

is it worth the price? I don't really feel like it was. It's more capable than any scanner I've ever owned before, even with the misleading marketing - but for the price, I expected that marketing would be accurate.

If I had the money back to do all over again, I'd probably try out a Launch X431 instead

    SUMMARY

    PROS:

    - great code reader for reading codes and viewing live data

    - bluetooth connection to vehicle is convenient

    - some specialized functions can be helpful

    - nice build quality

    CONS:

    - misleading capabilities

    - slow vehicle communication (though admittedly improving with updates)

    - some common vehicles not supported

    - slow update releases

    - bi-directional features very limited on many vehicles

    - overpriced, even with the artificial "discount" from MSRP

Works well - I thought it had more features

    Autel Maxicom MK808BT ReviewsBy Michael

I purchased this scan tool because I really needed to start getting into having bi-directional control for working on vehicles. Reading the product page for this it made it seem like it does have bi-directional functions, but after I got the tool I found that it doesn't really have them, or maybe they only work on certain select vehicles. For what this tool does it does it well, but I think that the product page inflates its capabilities. It is more of a basic live data/code reading tool.

Title on item when I purchased it was "Autel MK808BT Bluetooth OBD2 Scanner Diagnostic Scan Tool with All Systems Diagnosis and 21 Services, IMMO, Oil Reset, EPB, BMS, SAS, DPF, TPMS Relearn, ABS Bleed, Injector, Advanced Ver. of MK808" On the vehicles I tested, ABS Bleed did not work as well as many other test functions.
