Some GM cars have a high safety rating, and cannot be programmed with the Autel KM100 to add keys. This often requires adapters, dealer software, NASA software, etc., which is more troublesome and costly.
Today, we'll introduce a simpler method for programming GM keys 2021-2025: using the Autel V200 and J2534 Pass-Thru. The entire process takes only about 15-20 minutes, saving you time and money. We'll also provide troubleshooting and safety tips to help you get started quickly.
Tools and Preparations
Required tools
-
Autel V200
The purpose of using the Autel V200 is to establish communication between the computer and the GM vehicle's ECU, facilitating subsequent key programming. Note that the Autel V200 is not the programming host; it is merely an interface tool and must be used in conjunction with a computer or an Autel key programmer.
-
Windows Computer
A Windows computer is an essential tool that cannot be omitted or replaced. The entire GM key programming process will be performed on the computer, requiring access to the GM software webpage (acdelcotds) for further operations.
-
GM ACDelco Subscription
Simply accessing the GM software website doesn't automatically allow you to program GM keys; you need to create an account and log in. A subscription fee, typically $45, is also required.

-
Stable power and network
The entire key programming process takes 15-20 minutes. During this time, a stable internet connection must be maintained for the computer; otherwise, programming may fail. In addition, both the car and the computer require a stable power connection to ensure the key programming process can continue for an extended period.
-
New key (must match the vehicle model and year)
2021–2025 GM smart keys with encryption methods require the correct model number to be used.
Preparation Before Key Programming
-
Installing software on a computer
Download Maxi PC Suite (Windows) from this link: https://autel.us/software-downloads/. It will also host the drivers for OE software for J2534 platforms. Install the Techline Connect software on your computer.

-
Log in to your GM ACDelco account
Open the ACDelco website and log in to obtain a subscription. Record your car's VIN and enter it online.
-
Connecting devices
Insert the Autel V200 into the OBD II port of your GM car and connect it to your computer using a USB cable. Then turn on the car's ignition switch, but do not start the engine.
Step-by-step GM 2021–2025 Key Programming
Step 1: Open Techline Connect
Open the downloaded "Techline Connect" and enter your car's VIN number.
Step 2: Select the Device to Connect to the Car
After entering the VIN, click "Select" to enter the device selection interface. Select V200 to proceed to the next step. A beeping sound can be heard when the connection is successful.
Step 3: Click on SPS2 on the Side to Enter
Click on SPS2 in the sidebar, select the reprogramming feature, and then click Next.

Step 4: Find Immobilizer Learn and Enter
Select Immobilizer from the displayed controller names to learn how to use it. In the pop-up window, select Become an Interceptor or Remote Key (Add). Ensure the ignition switch is on, but do not start the engine, and close the driver's side door.
Step 5: Key Learning
Follow the prompts in the SPS2 pop-up to learn the key. Place the original key inside the car and the new key outside. Click "Continue Learning New Key," then bring the new key back inside the car and leave the original key outside. Follow the prompts until the key programming is successful.
Step 6: Testing the New Key Functionality
Test the new key's functionality by starting the vehicle, raising and lowering the windows, locking/unlocking the doors, etc., and test whether the buttons function properly.

Troubleshooting and Solutions
Question 1: VTD security access is locked.
Solution: Try again, making sure the programmed key is outside the car.
Question 2: The computer displays "VCI cannot connect".
Solution: Check if the Autel V200 is working properly and if it needs an update. Also check the data cable connection; try a different data cable.
Question 3: Power outage/connection interruption during programming
Solution: Connect to a sufficient and stable power source and network in advance to avoid such situations and prevent potential problems.
Precautions & Safety Tips
- Use a genuine, compatible key — Never use a key from an unknown source or with questionable compatibility, as this may cause the system to lock or malfunction.
- Maintain a stable vehicle power supply (≥12V) during programming — Connecting an auxiliary power supply/battery maintainer is strongly recommended.
- Do not unplug the OBDII connector/disconnect the device during programming — Doing so may damage the vehicle's ECU or immobilizer module.
- Comply with local laws and regulations — For operations involving used vehicles, adding new keys, or transferring keys, ensure they are legal and compliant.
